Who could know that I would come to Hanoi and get 'culture'? Tonight I was invited by David and his wife Amanda to join them in attending a performance of the Hanoi international String Quartet to benefit KOTO. The quartet was joined by pianist Phillipe Rigot to perform work by Mendelssohn and Schumann. The music was delightful despite the dreadful behaviour of some of the audience...sniffing loudly...talking...and moving around on the hard wooden floor. One of the best things about the concert was the enthusiastic introductions by viola player Nick Booth (no relation unfortunately). His descriptions of the music were funny, lyrical, dramatic and illuminating.
After the music we enjoyed canapes produced and served by the wonderful trainees from KOTO, risotto balls with pesto, duck and enoki mushroom rice paper rolls, lemongrass skewer chicken and marinated prawns...yummy!
So tomorrow is another day....one that will start with a 5km fun run....or for me a 5km brisk walk!
I think this adventure could be good for me in more ways than I anticipated.
